Sustainable Construction in your Log Home

Home is using sustainable principles

This home is using green principles by including solar panels for electricity.

Going green at home is possible for everyone, whether you build a new green home or you take some simple energy and water conservation measures in your existing home.

Of course, if you are building a new log or timber home, you can use energy saving technology, alternative energy sources and green building materials during construction.

But, if you have decided to put off building your dream home for now, you can still take some going green at home measures.

Replace failing appliances with new energy efficient Energy Star appliances and learn to be more conservative in your use of electricity, oil, propane or natural gas, right now.

The definition of eco-friendly living or going green at home, is simply living with an earth-friendly attitude and causing no harm to the environment.

Doing so, includes conserving the resources that we have, in particular, water and energy. Even taking small steps to avoid polluting the water table, the air surrounding your home and the soil, will help.

And, if you you can purchase building materials and products that have been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Energy Star Program or a consumer-advocacy group like the Green Good Housekeeping (seal of approval).

You will be helping to cut down on industrial pollution, as well as going green at home.

Going Green at Home Begins with Energy Efficiency

While most people recognize the benefits to the environment of living green, many balk at the sacrifices that they think they will have to make.

In our energy thirsty society, most families don’t even think about how much energy they are using.

And most of us consume huge amounts of electricity and fossil fuels without a thought about the waste and pollution that result.

Those of us who have vision, consider the use of alternative energy. But many base their calculations for solar panels or wind turbines–on their current energy usage.

There is another way…

Energy Efficient Homes Reduce Alternative Energy Needs

You would think that an alternative energy expert, who has been researching and teaching about alternative energy technologies for over 35 years would be encouraging the use of new alternative technologies. But that’s not necessarily so…

Peter Lindemann, an internationally recognized leader at Tesla Technologies, is warning people to take some simple steps before running out to get solar panels or wind turbines.

The reason is simple. Lindemann explains that, there are some little known steps that can be taken to improve the energy efficiency of any home or business—before looking for ways to produce green energy.

In fact, if you improve the energy efficiency of your home, you can save lots of money on alternative energy technology, as your energy needs will be much lower—a fraction of what they were originally.

Simply using extra insulation in your home and building a smaller home can greatly decrease your need for energy to heat and cool your home.

And, If you are not ready to build a new sustainable house, you can reduce your energy consumption right now by replacing any appliances (as they die) with Energy Star appliances.

To reduce water usage, simply purchase inexpensive water saving devices that attach to your current faucets and showers.

Many easy and inexpensive changes to your current home, can help your family in its going green at home strategy.
